Geneva, 27 March 2026

Madam Vice-President,

India would like to reaffirm, in a sincere and constructive spirit, our continued commitment to this agenda item. We see technical assistance and capacity-building not as prescriptive tools, but as forms of support that should come at the request of the country concerned and align closely with its own development priorities.

We firmly believe that when grounded this way, such efforts can truly strengthen local institutions and build practical skills that make a real difference in people’s everyday lives.

Mr. President,

We have also seen how meaningful progress could be achieved when support is shaped by what countries themselves have identified as their priorities, particularly, through their accepted recommendations under the UPR. With genuine collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner, these efforts have the potential to translate into tangible, meaningful and lasting outcomes.

We also firmly reiterate the need to preserve the integrity of this agenda. It should remain a space for cooperation, not politicization, and one that respects national ownership in addressing human rights challenges.

India has consistently contributed to this work, including through voluntary financial support to relevant UN Trust Funds, reflecting its belief in shared responsibility.

I Thank you.
