Thank you for the floor Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Bulgaria and thanks them for the presentation of their national report.

2. My delegation welcomes the recent legislative measures undertaken by Bulgaria, including the adoption of the Bulgarian Sign Language Act recognizing the linguistic status and rights of deaf and deaf-blind persons; the Anti-Corruption Act aimed at strengthening institutional mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption; and the amendments to the Criminal Code that incorporate racist, xenophobic, and homophobic motives as aggravating factors in relevant criminal provisions.

3. In the spirit of constructive engagement, we recommend the following to Bulgaria:

  • One, Take steps against domestic violence affecting women and girls through legislative and law enforcement measures,
  • Two, Undertake targeted interventions that address unique vulnerabilities faced by marginalized communities like the Roma Community, in education, housing and health.

4. We wish Bulgaria a successful UPR review.

Thank you.
