Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 50th Session (03-14 November 2025): 4th UPR of Maldives - Interactive Dialogue delivered by Amb. Arindam Bagchi, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 5 November 2025

Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Maldives and thanks the delegation for presenting its National Report. We commend Maldives for its efforts and for the progress made in promoting and protecting human rights.

  1. India appreciates Maldives’ commitment to implementation of 2008 Constitution. It also acknowledges Maldives’ efforts to uphold the democratic values, rule of law and strengthen governance.
  1. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India makes the following recommendations to Maldives:

(i) Continue to work towards promoting gender equality and ensuring the effective protection of women’s rights;

(ii) further strengthen the legal and institutional framework for the promotion and protection of the rights of the child.

  1. India acknowledges the resource constraints and economic stresses faced by the Maldives and reaffirms its commitment to providing all possible support in this regard.

We wish the delegation of Maldives all success in its review.
