Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Malawi and thanks them for their presentation.

2. We appreciate the various policy and legislative measures outlined in the National Report in promoting and protecting human rights in Malawi. We welcome the launch of National Strategy on Political Empowerment of Women (2024-2030) and the Decentralisation Policy (2024-2029) aimed at enhancing political representation of women for an inclusive governance.

3. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India makes the following recommendations to Malawi:

  1. continue working to end discrimination against children in the most vulnerable situations, including girls, children with disabilities, and those living in rural areas;

  1. continue implementing measures to support the enjoyment of human rights by persons with disabilities, including ensuring the effective implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act 2024, and the National Disability Policy of 2025.

  1. continue taking effective measures to address and eliminate discriminatory practices against women and girls, including gender-based violence.

4. We wish the delegation of Malawi all success in its review.

Thank you.
