Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 51st Session (19-30 Jan 2026): 04th UPR of Rwanda– Interactive Dialogue delivered by Ms. Anupama Singh, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 21 Jan 2026

Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Rwanda and thanks the delegation for presenting its National Report. India appreciates the progress made by Rwanda since its last review.

  1. We welcome Rwanda’s active participation in international human rights mechanisms, as demonstrated by its reporting to various treaty bodies including CEDAW, ICCPR, and CERD.
  1. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India makes the following recommendations to the Republic of Rwanda:

(i) continue to work towards promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, as well as combating gender-based violence.

(ii) continue to take measures to strengthen the legal framework for the promotion and protection the rights of children.

  1. We wish the delegation of Rwanda all success in its review.
