Statement by India during the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Lebanon at the 51st Session of UPR Working Group (19-30 January 2026) delivered by Mr. Kshitij Tyagi, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India,

Geneva, 19 January 2026

Madam Vice President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Lebanon and thanks them for the presentation of their national report.

  1. We appreciate the steps taken by Lebanon towards the promotion and protection of human rights during a period of complex challenges. We note with appreciation the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol in 2025.
  1. In the spirit of constructive engagement, we recommend the following to Lebanon:

One, continue efforts to combat gender based violence and strengthen access to legal remedies and psychosocial support for victims.

Two, continue efforts to combat trafficking in persons by implementing the standard operating procedures for identifying and protecting victims and by enhancing the capacity of the judiciary to manage trafficking cases.

And Three, redouble efforts to improve access to and the quality of the public education system, including by removing legal and policy barriers to enrolment and attendance for all children.

We wish Lebanon a successful UPR review.

Thank you.
