
Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 51st Session (19-30 Jan 2026): 04th UPR of Mauritania– Interactive Dialogue delivered by Ms. Anupama Singh, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 20 Jan 2026
Mr. President,
India warmly welcomes the delegation of Mauritania and thanks the delegation for presenting its National Report. India appreciates the progress made by Mauritania since its last review.
- We welcome the adoption of the National Strategy for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights 2023-2028. We commend Mauritania’s active cooperation with international human rights mechanisms, as demonstrated by its reporting to various treaty bodies.
- In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India makes the following recommendations to Mauritania:
(i) continue to work on elimination of discrimination against women while advancing their overall empowerment.
(ii) continue to take measures to ensure inclusive and equitable access to education for all children, particularly those with disabilities.
(iii) continue taking actions to eliminate all contemporary forms of slavery.
- We wish the delegation of Mauritania all success in its review.
