India’s Intervention at the 35th Special Session of the Trade and Development Board, delivered by Mr. Gaurav Kumar Thakur, Counsellor, Geneva, 23 June 2025

Thank you, Mr. President,

India aligns itself with the statements delivered by G77 & China and by the Asia-Pacific Group.

My delegation extends our sincere appreciation to the Government of Viet Nam for its commitment. We recognize the significant work done by Viet Nam and fully understand the circumstances that ultimately required the venue to be changed. We are confident that Viet Nam will continue to play a vital role in the process ahead.

India warmly congratulates the Government of Switzerland for its readiness to host UNCTAD XVI in Geneva. Switzerland’s long-standing tradition of multilateralism, inclusive dialogue, and unwavering support for the United Nations system are commendable. We are confident that Switzerland will ensure the Conference is conducted in a manner that is inclusive, transparent, and sensitive to the priorities of developing countries, in line with UNCTAD’s core mandate.

India reaffirms its commitment to supporting a successful and action-oriented Conference in Geneva. We believe that this gathering is a critical opportunity to address the evolving needs and priorities of the Global South, to reaffirm the importance of international cooperation in today’s challenging global landscape, and set an ambitious agenda for the next four year.

India looks forward to working constructively with all partners to ensure that UNCTAD 16 delivers concrete, meaningful outcomes for all member states.

Thank you, Mr. President.
