Ambassador Arindam Bagchi, Permanent Representative of India,

Geneva, 17 June 2025

Mr. President,

India thanks the High Commissioner for his report and acknowledges the wide-ranging work undertaken by the OHCHR during these challenging times marked by conflict, economic distress, and climate change.

As the world’s largest democracy, India remains firmly committed to the promotion and protection of the human rights of all our citizens. Our inclusive and participative governance, guided by the principles of equality and justice, continues to advance the well-being of vulnerable groups through improved access to education, healthcare, housing, food security, employment, and clean energy.

We appreciate the High Commissioner recalling the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in Jammu and Kashmir, and his call for bringing perpetrators of this heinous act to justice. We will continue to take steps to hold to account the perpetrators, supporters and sponsors of such acts of cross-border terrorism.

We support the High Commissioner’s call to place human rights at the centre of peacebuilding, development, and humanitarian efforts, as reaffirmed in the Pact for the Future. India remains committed to working with all stakeholders to build a just, inclusive and sustainable future for all.

Thank you.
