Mr. Vice President

  1. The world continues to grapple with multiple crises, derailing the progress towards achievement of SDGs, exacerbating inequalities, and disproportionately impacting the countries of the Global South. Against this backdrop, it is important that the Council pays equal attention to the promotion and protection of all human rights, including the right to development.

  1. We reaffirm that all human rights are universal, indivisible, interrelated, interdependent and mutually reinforcing and that the Human Rights Council should be guided by the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity, to enhance the promotion and protection of all human rights, including the right to development, in a fair and equitable manner. We emphasise the importance of avoiding double standards and politicisation. We also urge the Council for renewed emphasis on constructive dialogue and cooperation, with a view to enhancing the promotion and protection of all human rights. Country-specific initiatives must enjoy the support of the countries concerned, for improving the situation on the ground.

  2. The Council should also focus on supplementing the national efforts of States to tackle the key challenges faced by them through the provision of technical assistance and capacity building with their consent and at their request.

  3. It is in such an equitable and fair fashion, and with such renewed vigour, that we must pursue the achievement of sustainable development goals and protection and promotion of all human rights.

Thank you.
