 Mr. President,

The world today faces multiple, overlapping crises- from conflict and economic disruptions to climate change and food and energy shortages, that are derailing progress towards the SDGs. These challenges disproportionately affect countries of the Global South and underscore the need for the Council to address all human rights: civil, political, economic, social, and cultural, including the right to development, in a balanced and holistic manner.

  1. India reaffirms that all human rights are universal, indivisible, interrelated and interdependent. The work of this Council must be guided by principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity, and non-selectivity, while avoiding double standards and politicisation. Constructive dialogue and cooperation, not finger-pointing, remain the most effective way to advance human rights. Country-specific measures, if undertaken, must enjoy the consent and support of the country concerned, with the objective of tangible improvement on the ground.
  2. It is only through such equitable and fair cooperation that the international community can make progress in realising the SDGs and the full enjoyment of all human rights by all people.

Thank you
