Statement by India at the Universal Period Review (UPR) Working Group 49th Session (28 April 2025 - 09 May 2025), Fourth UPR of Guyana Interactive Dialogue, delivered by Mr. Mohammed Hussain K.S., Counsellor & Legal Adviser, Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, Geneva, on 6 May 2025

Mr. President,

1. India extends a warm welcome to the delegation of Guyana for its fourth UPR.

2. We note the rapid economic and developmental transformation in Guyana. The emphasis on addressing socio-economic disparities through various citizen-centric initiatives, is particularly noteworthy. We also note the efforts being made to address gender-based violence and various initiatives ensuring inclusivity irrespective of race, religion or sexual orientation.

3. In the spirit of constructive dialogue, we encourage and recommend to Guyana the following:

One, to continue its efforts in the fields of connectivity, healthcare, housing, and vocational education, especially for the indigenous and other marginalized communities.

Two, to continue its on-going efforts towards promoting equitable growth and sustainable development, while upholding Guyana’s values of plurality and a multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic ethos.

4. We wish the delegation of Guyana all success in its review.

Thank you, Mr. President.
