Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 49th Session (28 April - 9 May 2025): 4th UPR of Lesotho - Statement delivered by      Ms. Anupama Singh, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India

Mr. President,

We welcome the delegation of Lesotho. We note with appreciation the consultation process undertaken including the setting up an Inter-Ministerial Committee on UPR for preparing the National Report.

  1. We appreciate the efforts of Lesotho on disaster resilience, climate change response, food security and empowerment of women. We welcome the recent enactment of Labour Act 2024.
  2. India recommends the following to Lesotho:

(i) Consider taking measures to combat discrimination on the basis of gender, sex and disability amongst others.

(ii)   Continue ongoing measures for reduction of extreme poverty, food insecurity and employment.

(iii) Strengthen efforts for operationalization of the National Human Rights Commission.

(iv) Continue the efforts for enhancing access to healthcare services particularly for HIV/AIDS care, with a view to achieve 95-95-95 targets by 2025.
