Statement by India during the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Lao PDR at the 49th Session of UPR Working Group (28 Apr - 9 May 2025) delivered by Mr. Kshitij Tyagi, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 29 Apr 2025

Mr. Vice President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Lao People’s Democratic Republic and thanks them for the presentation of their national report.

  1. We appreciate the progress made by Lao PDR towards poverty alleviation and sustainable economic development under the National Green Growth Strategy, against historical constraints and the challenge of UXOs. We also welcome the efforts made by Lao PDR under the National Action Plan on combating human trafficking.
  1. In the spirit of constructive engagement, we recommend the following to Lao PDR :
  • One, continue efforts to provide improved healthcare access to persons with disabilities;

Two, continue efforts to combat gender-based discrimination.

And three, continue efforts to improve access to quality education, especially in rural areas.

  1. We wish Lao PDR a successful UPR review.
